Back to School Skin Tips

Back to School Skin Tips
August 17, 2019Western MD DermatologyMedical Articles

Back to school season can be a stressful time for both parents and kids. As part of the process for getting back to school, taking time to do a skin check-up is the perfect way to keep yourself healthy while also preparing for the new school year.

One of the easiest ways to stay up to date with your skin health is to get a mole check. It is recommended that skin checks be done every year by a dermatologist, so why not make back to school time that yearly check-up? Kids from pre-K all the way through college should get their skin checked for moles before heading back to school. This will allow their dermatologist to keep a record of their moles, year by year, and allow them to monitor any changes that could occur as the years go on. Having a professional skin check is the best way to catch any skin problems early.

If your teen is suffering from acne, you should take them to see a dermatologist so we can assess the problem and offer solutions to help control outbreaks. Acne can feel overwhelming to teens, but offering solutions can be the first step in maintaining healthy skin and keeping their mind focused on their work.

Also, remember that just because the summer is over, doesn’t mean the time for wearing sunscreen is too! Continue to apply sunscreen before heading out the door, especially if your child walks to school and back anytime between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.

If you need to schedule a skin check for you or your child, you can contact Western Maryland Dermatology at (301) 777-7900 or visit us online at https://wmderma.com/contact/ where you can chat with one of our reservation specialists.
