4 Common Skin Care Myths
There are countless skin care tips that claim to help you have smooth and clear skin. Our dermatologists are available to clarify any of these myths to help you have healthy skin.
You get acne because you don’t wash your face – False
Acne develops when bacteria and dead skin cells clog pores. Not washing your face won’t help prevent acne, but it is not the sole cause. You can get acne at any age. Stress, skin products, family history, and medications can all play a role in adult acne. Acne is a medical condition and you should not hesitate to get medical treatment as you would with any other health condition.
You Only Need to Wear Sunscreen on Sunny Days – False
Even on a cloudy day, UV radiation from the sun reaches the earth’s surface. You should use sunscreen every day and remember to reapply every 2 hours if you are swimming or sweating. We recommend sunscreen with at least 30 SPF.
There is only one right way to do skin care – False
Everyone has different skincare needs, so you may need to go through some trial and error before finding the right products for your skin. Moisturizers and sunscreen are two products we recommend everybody includes in your daily skincare routine.
“Squeaky clean” skin is the goal – False
Maintaining your skin’s moisture barrier is key to healthy skin that feels and looks good. Using harsh products will strip away your moisture barrier. Instead, choose gentle cleansers that lift away dirt, oil, and makeup, but don’t leave your skin feeling dry and tight.
